Tapered Roller Bearing

The tapered roller bearing is also as known as conical roller bearing. The inner ring of the bearing with roller and cage constitutes the inner assembly, which can be installed separately from the outer ring. The inner and outer rings of the bearing have tapered raceways, and the tapered roller is installed between the raceways.

  • Tapered roller bearings have different structural forms such as single row, double row and four row tapered roller bearings. In order to prevent the destructive sliding between roller and raceway caused by inertia force when the bearing is running at high speed, the bearing must bear certain load.
    Structure of Tapered Roller Bearing
    Tapered roller bearing is suitable for bearing radial load, unidirectional axial load and combined radial and axial load. The axial load capacity of tapered roller bearing depends on the contact angle α, that is, the raceway angle of outer ring. The larger the contact angle α is, the larger the axial load capacity is.

    ① Single row tapered roller bearing

    The bearing can limit the axial displacement of the shaft or the shell in one direction and bear the axial load in one direction. Under the action of radial load, there will be axial component force, which should be balanced. Therefore, in the two supports of the shaft, two bearings must be used face-to-face or back-to-back configuration.

    ② Double row tapered roller bearing

    The outer (or inner) ring is a whole. The small end faces of two inner rings (or outer rings) are similar, and there is a spacer in the middle. The clearance is adjusted by the thickness of the spacer. This kind of bearing can bear both the radial load and the bidirectional axial load, and limit the bidirectional axial displacement of the bearing or the shell within the axial clearance range of the bearing.

    ③ Four row tapered roller bearing

    The performance of this kind of bearing is basically the same as that of the double row tapered roller bearing, but it is more capable of bearing radial load than that of the double row tapered roller bearing, but its limit speed is lower. It is mainly used in heavy machinery, such as rolling mill, etc.
